Océ Research & Development

Even before my studies, I wanted to work on large, complex, technical projects. In my pursuit of this goal, I studied Computer Science at TU Eindhoven, where I became interested in system architecting. I continued with the post-master Software Technology. For my final project, I wanted to work on a strongly multidisciplinary project; which means that besides software, it also involves other disciplines such as mechanics and electronics. So, at the choice for Océ was easy as their products are strongly multidisciplinary.

When it came to looking for a job, I considered some other aspects on top of multidisciplinarity; I wanted variety and the opportunity to grow. During my project at Océ, I spoke to a number of employees and I became impressed at the ease and speed at which people switched between projects and functions. During my interview it became clear that Océ was willing to give my ambitions a chance.

Currently, I am responsible for the architecture of a subsystem of a printer controller. The main responsibility is translating new requirements into software design. This requires thinking from the customer's perspective as well as considering what is technically feasible. Nearly always, finding such solutions require cooperation with others. It is difficult to describe an average day, but some of my regular activities include writing proposals, implementing, analyzing and solving problems, discussing problems and solutions, and reviewing.

A lot of change is going on at Océ; visible examples are the intented merger and the steps taken outside of the world of printing on paper. Within R&D, you work on the future of the company, so these changes influence your work as well. In particular, this makes it a very interesting time to work for Océ.
